Daily Prayer

Goal:  To strengthen our personal relationship with God and our church through the Holy Spirit and Jesus in daily prayer.

Objectives:

A.       All people are encouraged to spend time each day in talking with God.

B.      To lift up our church so that we may have Jesus Christ as our leader.

C.      To remember those in our church and community who are in need of help.

D.      To remember those in our church and community who are a blessing.

E.       To thank God for all the good things and good people in our lives

F.       To know that God is present and acts in our daily lives.

Application:

A.        All members and friends of the church can pray daily to God.

B.      Prayers should be said at a time of day where we are awake and alert.

C.      Distractions should be minimalized as much as possible.

D.      We should use the daily prayer of the church and other resources to guide our prayers.

E.       Prayers can be done individually, as a couple, and even as a family.

Practicing our Spirituality

Contemplation: Centering Prayer

It’s very, very simple. You sit, either in a chair or on a prayer mat or stool, and allow your heart to open toward that invisible but always present Origin of all that exists. Whenever a thought comes into your mind, you simply let the thought go and return to that open, silent attending to the depths. Not because thinking is bad, but because it pulls you back to the surface of yourself. You use a short word or phrase, known as a “sacred word”, such as “abba” (Jesus’ own word for God) or “peace” or “be still” to help you let go of the thought promptly and cleanly. You do this practice for 20 minutes, a bit longer if you like, then you simply get up and move on with your life.”
