Cook County Food Shelf

Our church started the Food Shelf and now hosts it as it has its own leadership and organization.

The Food Shelf is an all-volunteer organization. We need volunteers to for every aspect of operation: bag packers, refrigerator and freezer managers, shelf stockers, distribution bookkeeper and public liaison teams, and truck unloaders. Call 218-387-9860 to get involved.

Hours of Operation:

Open every Monday from 3 pm to 5 pm.

First Wednesday of each month 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Food Drive happening now!

Dear friends,

Many of you are undoubtedly helping our local Food Shelf, especially with the ‘hash’ the federal government has made of SNAP.

I contacted Gwen Lenz, one of the board members, about what they need and this was her (immediate) reply:

“Please oh, please do send food. There are many times that we can’t even get

food that we order. Anything you may eat, our clients will also eat! We were

shorted peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, and crackers which with peanut

butter & jelly makes a “cookie.”

The food shelf could use canned fruit or veggies, canned meats or chili or stew.

We very seldom get desserts, like cookies or snack cakes. We have a “Grab

shelf” that clients shop from. That is also a good option for unusual foods.

Thanks for thinking of us!”

I know the grocery stores have baskets or carts for weekly food offerings. Right

now the need is greater than ever and there are likely things in our own pantries

that others would enjoy. So for the next couple weeks there will be a box at

church to collect items for the Food Shelf and we’ll make certain they are

received by Monday afternoon.

Thank you for your generosity.
